Downloadable Post Processors

CAMWorks ships with a number of standard postprocessors for milling and turning. These posts are intended to get a user started with a range of commonly available machines. A post processor is in essence a translator: it takes a toolpath from SOLIDWORKS CAM and converts it into a language that can be understood by a particular machine tool control.

It is the responsibility of the user to make sure these files generate code that is compliant with their machines. Artsoft USA does not guarantee these files are appropriate for any machine.

User Created Post Processors

These are user written post processors that have been made available to the community.

  • We are a small company with a Hurco VM1 machine. When we peck drill the machine expects Z's - first Z is total depth, second Z is first peck depth and third Z is peck depth. However, the post processors I have tried output Q's as the peck depth. I have to just manually edit the file but it would be nice to have the post processor do the work.
  • Post processors are a critical part of any CAM system. The output of CAMWorks and SOLIDWORKS CAM is a g-code file. This file contains the instruction set for your parts program: the feeds, speeds, toolpath, tool changes, safety codes, and more.

These packages may or may not have a Mach-specific post included. If they do not, using a standard Fanuc post should work fine for most applications.

Mastercam Post Processor Edit

It is the responsibility of the user to make sure these files generate code that is compliant with their machines. Hawk Ridge Systems does not guarantee these files are appropriate for any machine.

As with any new post processor, verify the code is doing what you expect before running parts on your machine. Suggested steps to verify the code include:

  1. Simulating the Toolpath in SOLIDWORKS CAM/CAMWorks
  2. Post process the code
  3. A list of some common items to verify in the posted code include:
    • Tool Numbers
    • Tool Offsets – Do the Height (H) and Diameter (D) Offsets match your machine
    • Work Offsets are correct (G54 etc)
    • Suitable Clearance and Rapid Planes
  4. Backplot the code with the relevant machine settings in the NC Editor (CIMCO)
  5. Simulate the toolpath on your controller and check for errors
  6. Dry run the program at low feedrates and RPMs without material and in free space (away from vises, chucks, fixtures and stock material) and watch to verify machine movements and be ready to stop the machine at any time. Ensure the Optional Stop switch is On (if applicable). Again, it is the responsibility of the user to make sure these files generate code that is compliant with their machines. Hawk Ridge Systems does not guarantee these files are appropriate for any machine.
